【New Technology for Long-lasting Molds】 Hard Coating Formation Process 'DC Coat-R'

Achieved "approximately twice the mold lifespan" compared to previous hard coating methods! Accepting test machining!

We have developed a plasma nitriding technology called "DC Coat R," which combines traditional PVD treatment. This new technology can shorten processing time compared to other nitriding treatments. Additionally, it significantly improves longevity, stress limits, and fatigue resistance. Moreover, during processing, it is an environmentally friendly surface modification process with no direct carbon dioxide emissions. ■Features ◎Reduction of oxidative wear with Cr-based films (high-temperature oxidation resistance) ◎Low friction coefficient achieved through finishing processes before and after treatment ◎Improved adhesion of CrN films through controlled plasma nitriding treatment ◎Increased compressive strength of the substrate due to controlled plasma nitriding treatment, enhancing resistance to high surface pressure strength ■Specific Product Examples ◎Cold forging dies ◎Press dies (high-tensile steel plates, general SUS materials, drawing dies, etc.) 【Effects】 Fatigue strength, adhesion, wear resistance, heat resistance 【Applicable Steel Types】 Applicable to all iron-based metals *For more details, please request documentation or view the PDF data available for download.

Innovative technology for plasma nitriding: "Atom Nitriding"

Nitriding of cutting tools is possible! We recommend composite hardening treatment using Atom nitriding and PVD coating!

Metal nitriding refers to a treatment that diffuses nitrogen atoms into the metal to improve surface hardness, with an expected lifespan increase of 2 to 3 times. "Atom Nitriding" is an innovative technology for plasma nitriding. In conventional nitriding methods, it is difficult to avoid the formation of a compound layer, necessitating the polishing removal of this layer. However, since tools and molds have complex shapes, polishing removal is challenging. This technology forms only a tough diffusion layer without creating a compound layer. [Features] - Nitrided surface consists only of a diffusion layer: the finished surface has good roughness and maintains gloss. - Nitriding is possible in narrow slits and fine pores. - Nitriding is possible for cutting tools. - Improved release properties for resin molds. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Plasma nitriding treatment (ion nitriding treatment)

This is an introduction to environmentally focused nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum.

At Asahi Heat Treatment Industry Co., Ltd., we conduct environmentally conscious nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum. When a direct current voltage is applied between the furnace wall and the workpiece in the vacuum furnace, glow discharge occurs. Hydrogen and gas are used as reaction gases to initiate the glow discharge. When nitrogen gas is introduced as the nitriding reaction gas into the excited plasma, nitrogen atoms are similarly excited and converted into N+ ions. These N+ ions are charged on the surface of the workpiece, allowing activated nitrogen elements to diffuse and harden the surface. Typically, the treatment is performed under a vacuum pressure of 1 to 10 torr at temperatures ranging from 400°C to 570°C. 【Features】 ■ The heat source used for treatment is plasma, which is energy-efficient. ■ Gas concentration can be easily adjusted, allowing for the tuning of nitriding characteristics. ■ By using carburizing gas, carburizing can be performed alongside nitriding. ■ Nitriding treatment can be conducted at low temperatures below 500°C, resulting in minimal dimensional changes and distortion. ■ Masking (nitriding prevention) can be easily achieved with jigs, allowing for partial nitriding. ■ The process is pollution-free and uses very few gases that contribute to global warming. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Plasma nitriding

Wide selection of processing temperatures! It is possible to obtain mechanical properties tailored to your purpose.

"Plasma nitriding" is a treatment that effectively improves wear resistance, galling resistance, and fatigue strength. Due to the processing in a vacuum, the surface obtained after treatment is in a non-oxidized state, resulting in minimal reduction in surface roughness and slight distortion, allowing for the omission or simplification of post-processing. It can be used for nitriding special metals such as stainless steel and titanium. Additionally, partial nitriding (anti-nitriding) can be easily performed, and in some steel types, it can enhance corrosion resistance. 【Features】 ■ Effective treatment that improves wear resistance, galling resistance, and fatigue strength ■ Capable of nitriding special metals such as stainless steel and titanium ■ Easy to perform partial nitriding (anti-nitriding), and can improve corrosion resistance depending on the type of steel *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Nitriding Treatment J-Nit (Radical Nitriding Method)

Nitriding Treatment J-Nit (Radical Nitriding)

<Overview> "J-Night" is a new nitriding treatment utilizing plasma, developed based on the theory of plasma nitriding reactions to improve the issues associated with conventional nitriding methods. This nitriding method is suitable for the treatment of high-speed tool steel and alloy tool steel. Its features are outlined below. ★ Six Points of J-Night ★ 1. It hardly changes the surface condition. 2. It can form only a diffusion layer without creating a compound layer. 3. It can minimize dimensional changes significantly. 4. Due to these features, post-processing after treatment is unnecessary. 5. It is a nitriding treatment conducted at temperatures below 500°C. 6. A hard coating can be directly formed on the treated surface using methods such as PVD. These features enhance the wear resistance of molds and machine parts, extend their lifespan, and improve productivity. ★ Benefits of J-Night Treatment ★ - No reduction in hardness or distortion - No polishing required after treatment - No peeling - Composite treatment is possible - Uniform nitriding depth *For more details, please refer to the catalog or contact us. ★ We also accept inquiries for sample coatings ★
